Tour Description

We invite you to one of the most spectacular high-altitude photo tours in the world — a journey into the Cordillera Huayhuash, where the mountains reveal themselves in an almost archetypal form: raw, silent, and overwhelming.

This compact yet dramatic mountain range, with peaks rising over 6000 m sharply from glacial valleys carved by millennia of ice and time, offers a rare stage for photography. Here, silence is not the absence of sound, but the full presence of the mountains. And the light — pure, precise, almost unreal in its clarity — feels made for composition.

The tour is photographically guided by Mihai Moiceanu, who will accompany you step by step through this mountain expedition, offering support in framing, working with light, and building a coherent visual story. You will have the chance to learn directly in the field, in an exceptional landscape where every stop becomes a portfolio image.

We begin with two days of acclimatization in Huaraz, at over 3000 m altitude, exploring the surroundings and building the first images of Andean atmosphere — glacial lakes, urban details, and the dramatic contours of the Cordillera Blanca.

Then follow the trekking photography days in Huayhuash, on a wild route with tent accommodation and a dedicated local support team. We cross mountain passes above 4700 m, sleep beside silent lagoons, and time our movements so that sunrises and sunsets find us in the most inspiring locations.

Laguna Carhuacocha, with perfect reflections of Yerupajá and Siula Grande, remains one of the most spectacular photographic locations in the Andes.

Siula Pass (4800+ m) offers wide perspectives and graphic ice formations.

Siula Base Camp, the location associated with the story Touching the Void, adds a strong narrative and symbolic layer to this visual expedition.

The tour is supported by a local logistics team — mountain guide, transport crew, and cook — allowing you to focus entirely on image-making, rhythm, breathing, and composition.

Each evening, as the camp quiets down, the sky opens toward the south and the Milky Way cuts through the pure darkness, inviting astrophotography. Each morning, light precisely touches the frozen faces of the mountains in a spectacle that demands time, patience, and a trained landscape photographer’s eye.

The Cordillera Huayhuash is not just a mountain trek. It is an intense visual experience, a journey into the depths of the Andean world, and a rare opportunity to photograph nature in its most monumental and pure form.

Join Mihai Moiceanu in this photographic adventure through the valleys and ridges of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
