In the wilderness of Romania’s Carpathian Mountains lives the largest brown bear population in Europe — an iconic yet elusive animal, more often sensed than truly seen.

Photographing bears in the wild is not a matter of chance, but of patience, field knowledge, and access to the right locations. This photo tour is built precisely around these conditions: a controlled, safe, and authentic experience offering a real opportunity to observe and photograph the Carpathian brown bear in its natural habitat.

Three dedicated photography sessions focus entirely on this subject, each taking place in different carefully selected locations across distinct bear territories. We work from specially designed photographic hides, created to allow close observation without disturbing the animals’ natural behavior. The emphasis is on observation, anticipation, and building the image in real field conditions.

The experience is complemented by sunrise landscape photography in remote wild areas, where morning light and silence create a natural contrast with the intensity of wildlife encounters. These are moments dedicated to slower rhythms, working with mist, low-angle light, and layered compositions.

This photo tour is not only about photographing a rarely seen animal, but about understanding an ecosystem and the way photography is shaped around it.

Logistics:

• We operate in wild areas of the Carpathian curvature, specially selected for bear population density and the quality of light during golden hours.

• Photography sessions take place from specially designed wildlife hides built for photographers, with viewing windows positioned at eye level with the animals.

• The schedule is dictated both by bear activity and by the best moments for spectacular sunrise landscape photography. We will have two daily sessions: an early morning session for sunrise photography and an afternoon/evening session, taking advantage of peak wildlife activity and soft diffused light.

• Transfers to the monitoring areas are made using 4x4 vehicles, followed by short walks across variable terrain. No exceptional physical condition is required, though discretion and silence are essential.
